Nominator's project description

Professor Kobayashi is a leader in the field of chemical catalysis. He has contributed several general concepts to the area, including the use of Lewis acid catalysts under aqueous conditions, new strategies for asymmetric catalysis, and fundamental approaches to nano-catalysis. In recent years he has also contributed industrially used microchannel and other flow reactors for reductions, oxidations, and other reactions. In Germany, Professor Kobayashi focuses his studies on applying chiral anions to asymmetric Lewis acid catalysis and on the photochemical generation of iminium ions.
